An archival premium Quality Art Print of The End of the Hunt by an unknown American Folk artist for sale by Brandywine General Store. We do not know the artist's name, but do know that the oil on canvas was painted in the year 1800. The work of art was commissioned in 1800 by Bartholomew Trueheart who lived from 1770 to 1834. When he died his estate, Selma, was sold and the picture as well. A Doctor Henderson bought the picture and passed it down to the daughter of Bartholomew Trueheart. The painting remained in this family until 1948 when it was sold to Edgar and Bernice Chrysler Garbisch who then gifted the art to the National Gallery of Art where it remains today. The hunting scene portrayed in this picture is reminiscent of an English foxhunt, but at this time in colonial Virginia, just shortly after the Revolutionary War, some British customs were probably still followed.
