An archival premium Quality art Print of the Brook Trout by wildlife artist Tim Knepp for sale by Brandywine General Store. This painting was finished in the year 2001 for the National Wildlife Service and shows a large brown fish with spots swimming along the creek bottom. Brook Trout are members of the Char subgroup of the salmon family. Trout in this family include the bull and lake trout. They are distinguishable from other trout by the absence of teeth in the roof of the mouth, the presence of light colored spots on a dark body, smaller scales and different skeleton structures. The scientific name is Salvelinus Fontinalis with Frontails meaning living in springs, which derived from these fish having to have colder and cleaner waters than their cousins. These fish normally grow to 6 to 13 inches in size and the life span is only around 3 years. Some of the other names Brook Trout are known by are Native Trout, Brookies, Speckled Trout or Brook Char.
