SKU: Country Decor #147

A Museum Quality Print of Domestic Cock, Hens and Chicks by Francis Barlow for sale by Brandywine General Store. The artist finished this oil on canvas in the year of 1655 with the original art being 33 by 39 inches in size and now resides at the Yale Center for British Art. The picture was painted in Lincolnshire England and signed and dated in black paint in the upper right corner F. Barlow Pinxit 1655 which is getting faded. This British artist was born in 1626 and lived to be 76 years old, dying in 1702. The scene shows a beautiful proud looking red and black rooster standing on one leg watching out for danger for his families. There is a white hen on a straw nest with another red and black hen standing behind her. There are several baby chicks or peepes scratching and eating food in the foreground of the painting. In the back is a beautifully woven splint basket which was probably used to gather the eggs in or maybe even for feeding the chickens. Country Decor Painting #147
