A Museum Quality Art Print of the old Circleville Grade and High School for sale by Brandywine General Store.  This school served the entire western part of Pendleton County WV, known as the North Fork Valley, from the time of its construction in 1937 - 1938 to around the mid 1990s. Twelve grades were taught here from 1st thru 12th. Even though a very small school with class sizes averaging around 20 students this school was always a powerhouse in baseball, winning the state title a few times and with one player going on to play major league baseball. The building today serves as a community center for the North Fork Valley. The construction style of this historic school is in the two story Georgian Revival style and it was built on the foundation of a new school house that burn to the ground in 1935 after graduating its first class just 4 years previous in 1931. This was in the depths of the great depression and the community could not afford to build another school. The Federal Works Progress Administration came to the rescue and built this current school. It is thought that the Circleville School was most likely the last building ever authorized by President Franklin D. Roosevelt to be built by the WPA. Due to this and due to the school affording education in a remote rural area, the building is currently in the National Historic Register. Picture #316
